The Marlins are interested in Vlad Guerrero? Really?

Vladimir Guerrero AP

Not much to this story, but Vladimir Guererro told Dominican newspaper El Caribe that the Marlins have expressed interest in him as a bench player.

You know, to DH. Oh, wait, can’t do that in the NL.  Or to be a backup outfielder. Oh wait, he doesn’t play defense anymore either.

Look, I’m sure there’s something they could have Vlad do, right?

Make that Marlins jersey look cool?

You know how, when you open a thing of chicken stock, you have to use up the rest within 7 days? Maybe pine tar is like that, and Vlad will be called on every 6 days to rub all soon-to-expire pine tar on his helmet.

Seattle could use his offense. Then again, Seattle could use MY offense.

Where is he going to play? Don’t the marlins realize they don’t play with dh in national league.

If Thome can play with the Phillies, Vlad can play with the Marlins. Though as far as veteran, hit-only, NL bench players go, no one will ever compare to Matt Stairs. “In case of emergency…”

Don’t matter. The Marlins with Vladdy is hardly the craziest match. Check out Off the Bench’s report on what else is new in town:

After that lot, is Vladdy being there any more or less nutso, ¿si, or no?

Samson and Loria trying to re-capture the Vladdy they once employed.

    Even more STUPID!!!

We could have him clean the fish tank behind home plate

He would provide – are we ready? – veteran presence. Can he bait a stewardess?

Swing the slowest bat in the major leagues is all he could do now

  12. Walk - Mar 2, 2012 at 11:06 PM

Pretty obvious. Bat him eight and then let him take a shot at the intentional walk pitches. Prety sure he could get a hit off those, only guy that scares me when hes getting passed up. All kidding aside pay the guy a million or so let him pinch hit and maybe play every fourth day he would be ok for the money. He needs a dh job though if he wants regular at bats.

He can still DH… During inter league games.

    Or not.

Look, if you’re Latino and know what a baseball is, the Marlins are probably going to offer you a contract. I think they arrived at this decision after looking at their attendance, then looking at their new payroll. Got to try and fill the stadium somehow. You know, because Florida is known for passionate sports fans. Especially for the Marlins and Rays.
