Thanks for the input. I’m looking at him for fantasy reasons, but always get a little nervous when a player posts better stats in the majors in a small sample size than what you see in a larger minor league career. Sometimes it’s legit, the player simply put it all together, better coaching, etc… In those cases I really prefer to have actually seen the player, but I trust you and PC as scouts

If I can get him for cheap, I’ll take the flyer.

I would take him late in a fantasy draft. At 21, he was not afraid of big league hitters. He was impressive. Drabek is pitching well so far this spring, and might just pass Alvarez of the depth chart. Keep an eye on Drabek

Definitely encouraging that control is not an issue. I prefer a young, hard thrower who needs to hone his breaking stuff (Alvarez) then a young, hard thrower who needs a pamphlet about how to find the strike zone (Drabek).

Oof. Small sample size, brah. BUT, the eyeball test says pretty good. Seems to throws hard enough (mid 90′s), but he’s got a good enough disguise for his off speed stuff. Needs a slider that breaks sharper (hell, who doesn’t?) and could do to learn Lefty Ricky Ramirez’s curve ball, BUT he’s accurate for a guy with as little MLB experience as he has and he’s unintimidated by the big stage. The trick with him is to throw the slider AT the right hand batter’s box, pretty much on the chalk line, about letter high. Last season he had trouble throwing that pitch for strikes. If he starts it own the middle, in the zone, its in the dirt in front of the left hand batter’s box: that isn’t going to get it done. Good fantasy ball pick up, but wait for at least one ST start before committing, if you can.

Well that sucks. Kid’s career aint cursed enough with being roly-poly, red headed and a barely good enough arm for MLB, now he gets an injection site infection needing surgery? Boy’s mojo needs an infusion of juju, IMO. Good luck & get well soon, Jesse.
