Picture of the Day: Yoenis Cespedes is an Oakland A

Mar 4, 2012, 12:32 PM EDT

From MLB.com’s Jane Lee comes this shot of Cuban outfielder Yoenis Cespedes being officially introduced at a press conference Sunday morning in Phoenix, Arizona. A’s GM Billy Beane looks absolutely giddy.

Beane is giddy thinking about how many prospects he can flip him for next winter.

Watching this absurd spectacle, I keep thinking of that scene in The Right Stuff wherein Chuck Yeager, Ridley and the USAF information officer are sitting at the Happy Bottom watching the gala press conference on TV to introduce the Mercury Astronauts, and remarking that none of those guys had ever done anything to merit all the hoopla except to show up for the press conference.

This clown is so overrated. I can’t wait to see the Chokeland Pathetics lose over 100 games

I wish, then they’d at least get a top-3 draft pick for a change. Unfortunately they’re gonna win in the 70s again and get a pick in the teens.

Yay! Now all Oakland needs is a pitching staff and then they’re set!

I think Brian’s right on target. I can see another 70+ win season, with the well-rested crowd at the Mausoleum treated to the annual excitement of the August introduction of the 9th pick in the first round of the draft.
