Portland or Las Vegas have less going for it than building a new stadium in Oakland. The issue is that Lew Wolff cannot imagine a business model for a new stadium without a “ballpark village” attached that includes townhomes and a high end shopping mall.

Sell the team to someone who can, and see if you can peddle that scheme to the Rays or maybe Toronto.

As a long time A’s fan, I really hope it all falls apart on Wolff.
It would be hilarious to have watched him destroy the team and end up with nothing but a team with less value than he paid for it…..

That town is severely depressed. The tech boom never really took hold there and CA politics being what they are, many of the Govt. employees got laid off. never going to happen.

Except they really don’t really have anywhere else to go, at least not anywhere else that wouldn’t infringe somebody else’s territorial rights. Vegas likely wouldn’t be able to support a team, for several reasons. And where else is big enough and sufficiently into baseball? Oklahoma City? Indianapolis? San Antonio? Montreal? Vancouver? Orlando? Portland Oregon? I haven’t researched this, but none of those possibilities sound too promising to me…

Air Bud’s in a tough spot here. If he really doesn’t have the majority vote to muscle the Giants, that means the other teams have to a) keep paying the A’s over $ 30M a year and b) deal with the fallout when they pack up and head to Vegas or wherever.

Why don’t I have the least bit of sympathy for Bud?

Salinas….Shudder.

The Giants are rightfully stressed that all that South Bay money would stop coming up to The City to see them play. San Jose wants so badly to be a known as the big city they already are. No one knows they are actually larger in size and population than San Francisco unless you’re from there. SJ baseball fans would embrace their new team fully and many would no longer make the trek to the City.
