Now, I know the Pirates won’t be anyone’s first choice, ever, but teams aren’t exactly lining up right now. And if you’re willing to sign with Baltimore last year, signing with Pittsburgh isn’t that much more of a step down.

So instead of opening the season as the starting first baseman in Pittsburgh, he’ll be bugging his agent to see if anyone called. If this does lead to retirement, he has nobody but himself to blame for not at least leaving that door open.

Played well with the Pirates after coming back from injury after he was acquired at the trading deadline.
