Moorad’s pending application for transfer was part of an accelerated sale date that happened to coincide with the Padres’ new blockbuster TV deal. MLB was very likely concerned that up front cash from the deal would have been funneled to the ownership group as part of the sale completion, as they should be. Moorad probably isn’t going anywhere, but this at least separates the two deals while keeping Padres ownership (unfortunately) in limbo.
