We should have an ONWHVG? (Oh No Where’s His Velocity Gone?) tracker. Brett Cecil produced similar worries a few days ago (though that was more in keeping with his velocity struggles last year). It seems like there’s always a few of these stories in Spring Training.

The simple truth is posters the media and nearly everyone else after his 1st outing a few days back were pointing to the fact that his fastball only hit 91 and were preparing a doomsday scenario. Today he gets his fastball to 93 in his 2nd outing and there are still the conspiracy theorists that maybe it really wasn’t 93. Isn’t the early days of spring training supposed to be for the players to loosen up and get rid of the rust of a winter without MLB.

Agreed. One of the tweets above said that the scoreboard had his velocity between 89-93. If that 93 is what the other tweeters are referring to…it’s probably not 93.

@paper. There are as many scouts with guns at ST games than right before playoffs. I’d guess the guns are very accurate or we’d be hearing otherwise.

If the scoreboard is putting up 93, he’s probably actually throwing 90-91. I’ve never heard of a scoreboard putting up accurate MPH for pitches…..that 94.7 MPH average from last year was from actual pitch data, not souped-up stadium guns.

I am not saying this is an issue….just that 93 on a scoreboard is never actually 93.

I think Pineda got schooled by his teammates and coaches about coming to camp out of shape and a fat slob. He was reminded that this isn’t seatle. Much more is expected from him. Local NY news says he’s already lost 10 pounds. Hopefully, this is a lesson he only needs to learn once. He had better not be only looking to CC for guidance.
