Blue Jays interested in White Sox starter Gavin Floyd

Over the weekend there was speculation about the Blue Jays pursuing Joe Blanton and apparently their search for a starting pitcher goes beyond the Phillies right-hander.

Jon Morosi of reports that the Blue Jays are also interested in Gavin Floyd of the White Sox and the two sides “have had dialogue about Floyd since the start of spring training.”

Floyd will make $7 million this season with a $9.5 million option for 2013, and rumors about the White Sox shopping him swirled throughout the offseason.

Presumably he’d cost more than Blanton, as Floyd is 29 years old and very durable with at least 30 starts in each of the past four seasons. He had a 4.37 ERA and 151/45 K/BB ratio in 194 innings last year despite calling a hitter-friendly ballpark home, making him a solid mid-rotation starter.

You can have him! One little bitty thing though, you have to take Rios too.

    Hello? Hello, anybody there?

Seems like a better option than Blanton. Cecil would be the Blue Jay starter on the bubble.

It will be interesting to see what the Jays are willing to give up for Floyd. Considering he’s due a little over $16MM between 2012 and 2013 he’s not exactly cheap and his ERA+ is going in the wrong direction the past 3 or 4 years.

The White Sox have obviously scouted the young pitchers in the Toronto farm system. The Jays would probably offer Cecil and Carreno. The White Sox would be interested in Hutchinson, Snydergaard and Nicolino but would probably be refused. McGuire, Jenkins, Wojciechowski, and Sanchez were all recent top 40 draft picks and could be traded.

Usually, if it’s reported, it’s not happening. AA deals in secrecy.

AA doesnt deal in anything over 2MIL and this guy makes way way too much for his little bank book so with that said can we now please stop linking the jays to deals that everyone (except all 5 blue jay fans in the world) know is NOT going to happen?
