Stewart and Whiteside are pretty much black holes of suck at the plate but we’re already hearing stuff about how great they are with the staff so of course there’s no chance Sanchez makes the team.

It’s an intriguing situation for the Giants, having 2 outstanding young catchers. I thing Posey’s athleticism would be wasted at 1b. If Sanchez’ defense is MLB quality, I might consider moving Posey to 3b, Panda to 1b, see if Belt can play LF, and get the hell rid of Huff.

That’s cute. I’m prepared to watch a lot of Aubrey Huff messing up Brandon Belt’s development process, and the backup catcher situation isn’t much different (assuming Posey’s health even allows him to catch most games in the first place). Hector Sanchez is having a good spring training, but he needs more time in the minors to develop. He seemed overmatched during his time with the big club last year, so the real question is whether the backup gig will go to Whiteside or Stewart.
