UPDATE: X-rays came back negative.

Freddy Garcia walked off the mound and into the clubhouse after taking a comebacker off his right hand in the fourth inning of this afternoon’s start.

Garcia tried to field the ball hit by Edwin Encarnacion and then immediately exited.

Marc Carig of the Newark Star Ledger reports that Garcia is headed for X-rays, but the Yankees are deeming them “precautionary.”

Between this and David Robertson hurting his foot falling down some stairs, it’s been a tough week for the Yankees pitching staff.

E5 is a very dangerous hitter.

Ouch. That’s going to sting for a few days.

Things happen for a reason. If anyone has been following some of the Yankees pitchers this spring they should have notice how well David Phelps has been pitching. If need be I’d like to see the Yankees give him a chance to prove himself on the “big” stage sooner rather then later.

He should just throw with his left hand. Everything else about him screams “crafty lefty” he might as well go all in.

Time to bring up Wade Taylor, Jeff Johnson, or Scott Kamenicki.
