The only thing I think of when I hear "Red Sox" and "Joe Blanton" is the fastball he put down the chute for Daniel Nava to smoke into the bullpen at Fenway for a grand slam on Nava's first ML at bat.

Why would the Red Sox prefer a broken down C-level starter like Blanton over giving a chance to a kid like Doubront? Makes no sense financially or talent-wise, especially with Dice-K returning by July or earlier.

Phils would trade this guy for a bag of day old donuts at this point. Just getting rid of that salary is what they need. I can see another big bat being brought in here at the trade deadline. Phils are stacked with pitching, especially starters. They have 3 guys in the minors that are ready to step up right now and start. They just need to pick the right one like they did last year with Worley

I'd be surprised to see Oswalt jump on with the Phillies so soon. When he was first getting lowball offers from the Cards and a couple other teams I commented on here that he would be crazy to sign with anyone right now for $5 million when he could easily get that much after the allstar break and teams have gone through injuries, etc. He will have his pick of teams to join and he will get at least that 5 or 6 million that he was being offered a while back. He will also know which teams look like real contenders so he doesn't have to waste his last few bullets on a non-contender.to me it always seemed that being on the phillies was "acceptable" to him at best but he would prefer to be somewhere else if he had the choice. One of the Philly writers has recently stated that he was always aloof with his teammates and didn't seem to be totally assimilated into the team. We shall see.

Ruben Amaro Jr. was on Sports Radio 94WIP in Philadelphia today and mentioned that he has already been in contact with Roy Oswalts' agent. So moving Blanton is definitely a strong possiblity. Kendrick could hold down the 5th spot in the rotation until midseason and then they could just add Oswalt to the rotation. Sounds like a great plan to me.
