You could be right. I'm just not sure it's in the teams best interest to be counting on that fact. As I'm sure you know Dice K was not the most "healthy" pitcher on the Red Sox roster even before his Tommy John Surgery.
For Example;
In 2009 he pitched: 59 innings
In 2010 he pitched: 153 innings

He had the Tommy John Surgery on or about June 10, 2011. Experts say it takes 12 to 18 months to FULLY recover. So if he's looking at the closer to 18 months portion of that the Red Sox will be lucky if they see him in August.

Also that assumes that there are no health issues with the "other" pitchers during the season. Like I said not a lot of room for margin of error.

It would seem on the surface that the Red Sox are locked in having to chose for their 4th and 5th pitching slots from a group of pitchers none of whom have pitched an average of 90 innings over the last 2 season in the big leagues. Bard, Doubront, Aceves, Padilla and Miller none of them. So all will need to be stretched out to give the Sox approximately 175 to 200 innings that starters need. Even if they are able to stretch 2 of the 5 out virtually no room for margin of error.

Not really a big deal, Silva was always on the outside looking in for the 5th starter spot, still lots of good options for Boston. http://www.lucidsportsfan.com/2012_03_01_archive.html#5228268183360112717
