Royals closer Joakim Soria left yesterday’s game against the Indians due to some elbow soreness.  Afterwards, he said that he’s pretty worried about it:

“Oh, yeah, I’m worried,” he admitted. “Since I’ve had my Tommy John surgery (in 2003), I’ve never had anything like that. I don’t feel it’s that bad because before the Tommy John surgery, all of my strength went away. This time, it hasn’t. So I don’t feel like it’s that.”

Even if he’s contrasting it to what happened in 2003, it’s kind of scary to hear a pitcher make any reference to Tommy John surgery.

Anyway, the Royals are expected to be kinda frisky this year. But after losing Salvador Perez for months and now, maybe, losing their closer, it may be necessary to ratchet it back to “quasi-frisky.”
