The Koreans are really serious about keeping the Orioles out

Mar 19, 2012, 10:30 AM EDT

Remember how the Orioles got themselves banned from scouting in Korea thanks to violating rules of the Korea Baseball Association?  Well, the Koreans are really serious about it.

This pic comes from Korean baseball columnist Daniel Kim, who took it today at Guyee Stadium in Korea:

But hey, totally worth it to sign a mediocre soft-tosser who’s contract was subsequently voided.

I mean no offense to anyone by this comment. But are there really that many good or decent Korean baseball players? That a MLB teams needs to scout them.

Shin-Soo Choo and Chan Ho Park are the only two that go above the level of mediocre, at least in my books.

The Cubs have a scout in Korea. The Red Sox used to but I think they fired/reassigned him a few years ago. The Giants cover Korea with a Japan-based scout, which I think is the more normal practice.

Only takes one. How many good players come out of boys homes in Baltimore?

So do they check IDs to make sure no one entering is an Orioles scout? Are fans made to walk through Angelos detectors? Is it a felony for Orioles scouts to pretend to be scouts for other teams? And does this extend to time traveling scouts for the St Louis Browns?

What about the Yankees? After all, the franchise did originate as the Baltimore Orioles.

Now if only they could ban the Orioles from playing at MLB stadiums…

Why bother? They’d only sneak in disguised as Mets.

What does Angelos have to say about this ?……crickets

I’m sure the scouts could find a way in. The real question is, why bother? There will be a s***storm of epic proportions if they try to sign someone, scouts or no scouts.

    Wow what idiots

  7. randomdigits - Mar 19, 2012 at 2:46 PM

Considering the scouting reports on the two Koreans DD has tried to sign I am considering the ban a good thing.
