I really don't see this as being that big a deal for Vizcaino. Tommy John hasn't been a death sentence for a pitchers career for quite some time. Pitching from the pen was probably likely to stunt his growth as a pitcher anyway. Hopefully he comes back healthy and they pitch use him as a starter at whatever level.

Goddamn commenting system ate my post. In short since I don't want to retype:

I agree with the point that some of the proponents of the Inverted W theory are crackpots. he points out *one* of them while ignoring others who are far more reputable(Chris O'Leary is who I read the most on the topic). He is also correct that the proposed solutions by those crackpots are likely not solutions. However the fact that there are charlatans who have signed on does not inherently discredit the notion that the Inverted W causes issues, and that is what would need to be discredited.

The article was good, but it had little content that justified the title. It was a logical fallacy in that it attempted to disprove the theory by attacking one of its proponents credibility. I agree that the guy is not reputable, but that does not mean that the Inverted W does not cause serious elbow and shoulder injuries, which is the point that would need to be proven/disproven.

He traded a fourth outfielder and a lottery ticket for one year of a reasonably-priced #2 starter. He didn't need to know the lottery ticket was damaged goods for it to be a smart trade.

Cashman did not or he wouldn't have traded for Pineda. Both have the dreaded(and according to paperlions, imaginary) "inverted w" motion which tends to lead to TJ surgery.

TJ surgery when you are Jamie Moyer is accepted, its just wear and tear. TJ surgery at age 21? No, thats mechanical.

If that's true, Cashman should change his name to Brian Carnac the Magnificent. Vizcaino pitched 100 effective innings after the deal in the Braves organization.

Sometimes Tommy John surgery is as unexpected as the Spanish Inquisition.

Wow - wonder if Cashman had an inkling Vizcaino was headed toward Tommy John when he traded him to the Braves. The more I look back at that Javy Vazquez deal- the more I shake my head- mostly bc of this guy...but this changes thing a bit.
