The announcers calling the game had the opinion that the same thing would have happened to any third baseman in the league, it was just a rocket with a bad hop, and Cabrera was in the right(wrong) place to stop it with his face.

I think it’s a stretch to say it would happen to every third baseman, but it’s not as much of a statement about his ability to play 3rd as people are immediately going to conclude without having seen the play.

I think AJ’s was displaced and needed surgery, but the same bone, I think.

Anybody who’s been hit in the face with a grounder off a bad bounce knows that sh*t is no joke. Hurts like hell a couple of days after the fact. just the fact I saw no tears in Cabreras eyes means he’s a tough SOB. Way to take it like a man miguel!

Not even close to fine. As this play showed it was a disaster waiting to happen. The Tigers and their fans are lucky that it wasn’t worse. It’s not just that he lacks quickness and agility, but look at the reaction time. He didn’t even get his glove up or move his head until the ball was on him.

I think Burnett’s injury was a complete fracture requiring surgery!! This was a small undisplaced fracture only requiring stitches to close up what i assume to be just a cut from his sun glasses!! The guy is pretty lucky!!!
