Evan Grant of the Dallas Morning News reports that the Rangers and Derek Holland are on the verge of a contract extension through at least 2016.

No word on the exact terms, but the proposed deal would cover his final pre-arbitration season, all three of his arbitration seasons and at least his first year of free agency. The two sides tabled negotiations earlier this winter, but were discussing a five-year deal with a club option for 2017.

Holland went 16-5 with a 3.95 ERA and 162/67 K/BB ratio over 198 innings last season for the back-to-back AL champion Rangers. The 25-year-old southpaw tied for the American League lead with four shutouts and was outstanding during the second half of the season, posting a 3.06 ERA over his final 14 starts. He also delivered on the big stage during the World Series against the Cardinals, striking out seven over 8 1/3 shutout innings in a Game 4 victory.

All Texas teams (all sports) are classless and losers

You know us horrible Texas fans, beating opposing team’s fans into comas, shooting them in parking lots after exhibition games… Super classless bunch we are! You guys don’t do that on the left coast though? Do you?

I believe your jealousy caused you to post that awfully misgueded comment. And the 1990’s Dallas Cowboys wanted me to let you know that no, your still not invited to the party at “The White House”

Randy if they offer him that much he better jump at it. I think you are at least $25MM to high. My guess 5 yrs/$38 to $40MM plus a 6th year option @ $16MM. And I’m not sure even this may be just a little bit high for the 5 guaranteed years $’s.

Holland has great potential and proved his maturity last season. Barring injury, he could be a 20 game winner in 2012. Sign him, Daniels ~ you can’t afford to let this youngster get away. Remember, Feliz has not proven himself in the rotation yet ~ and he may not.

You may be right, but assuming darvish is as advertised, holland is their number 2. Gotta figure that’s in the ballpark. If they go the yearly arbitration route after a lowball offer, he’ll be gone like CJ.
