Bobby Abreu doesn’t believe Mike Scioscia is going to give him 400 plate appearances

Bobby Abreu is sort of a man without a position in Anaheim.  Mike Scioscia, however, has promised him 400 plate appearances.  Abreu, speaking to Lider en Deportes, translated by Nick Collias of MLB Trade Rumors, isn’t buying it:

“I’ve learned not to have much confidence in these people, but I hope they live up to what they told me,” Abreu told Billy Russo at Lider en Deportes. “How long am I going to have to continue proving to people what I am, and what I’m able to do? At times it’s like the work one does doesn’t get appreciated, but here I am, and we’ll continue the fight.”

Eh. Abreu hit .253/.353/.365 last year. That doesn’t warrant 400 plate appearances in most places, let alone a team with as many DH/corner options as the Angels do.  If he wants 400 plate appearances, he’s gonna have to produce. It’s not a matter of promises.

How does one say anything in Venezuelan?

We usually employ witty phrases: “Se cree bonbon y no llega pinpon.”

        Isn’t that Spanish?

      • Francisco (FC) - Mar 24, 2012 at 10:14 PM

That’s the point. You can transliterate the phrase as: He think’s he’s La Maison du Chocolate and isn’t even an M&M.

Booby A. needs 2 wake up and smell teh latin coffee …he hgit 253 last year and is hitting around 230 this spring ….REALLY??? with som many better options he better start thinking about pinch hitting duties at best…he would be so gone if not for the 9 million owed him which no other team wants to eat. Hey Bobby stop the whining and understand your talents are not what they used to be ..or maybe Hugo Chavez has a team you can play for in Ven…..400 at bats……LOL

As long as you’re getting paid, you’ll have to ‘prove’ yourself. Last year proved alot of negatives about you, Bobby.

Hit until they have to play you Bobby, like everybody else.

Bobby Abreu doesn’t believe Mike Scioscia is going to give him 400 plate appearances

    No one else does either.

Bobby Abreu will be traded. There is no way Scioscia lets this go…and, by the way Bobby, if you’re reading this blog (and you should be), the guys above^^^ are totally correct: you want a job, be better than the guy who’s currently there. That is all, meat.

bobby is a smart player! He’s right, nobody would give him 400 at bats. especially when you’re batting .121 against AA pitching!!

He is a bum, was a lazy bum when he was in Philly. It’s no fluke that after he was traded, the Phillies started to win. BA is BUM!!!

He’s still in the league? -Phillies Fan

Few players get 400 appearances unless they can hit, so BA the bum knew that Scioscia was including BP and AAA, and AAA BP.
