It has nothing to do with being asked to testify. He admitted his usage after his name was leaked as being on the congressional report, if I’m not mistaken. He saw the handwriting on the wall.

Andy actually admitted his usage long before being asked to testify. He agreed to testify against Clemens, formerly a good friend, because he would not lie for him. He admitted to his usage and tried to move past it. I do not believe that this was a calculated PR move.

Creepies, Mudhead, where's your school spirit? Peorgie points out, however, that although Pettitte did nothing in itself admirable, compared to the recalcitrant lying of several of his colleagues he seems admirable for merely being practical. Weighing the consequences of admission against the far more onerous consequences of being nailed for perjury, he chose to consult his public relations people and make the best of an ugly situation. As Vonnegut famously remarked, so it goes.

The problem the governments case has is their key witness is Brian Mc Namee is a guy that admitted that he lied to the government. And, now says he’s telling the truth, … so that he does have to go to jail for distribution and lying to the government. I’m sure Clemen’s lawyers will beat that drum like a four minute Keith Moon solo.

Say what you will about Clemens but Mc Namee is a flat out dirt bag and is even less credible than Clemens.

I admire Andy pettitte. He made a mistake and owned up to it.
Clemens? Different story. Maybe Clemens can use Rafael palmeiro as a rebuttal character witness.

How the Feds bungled the opening of this case against Clemens is beyond me. With Pettitte’s testimony they pretty much have him. The real tragedy for Clemens is that he had a blueprint for how to handle it based on the Pettitte Method: either say nothing or admit to as many times as they had evidence for, say you’re sorry, and gracefully retire till most people forget. What’s more, Clemens is bringing it all back up again and reminding the HOF voters that Andy Pettitte used HGH and placing him front & center in the biggest steroid trial in sports.

Dude, when the feds start knocking on your door, it’s time to start telling the truth. That’s why guys like Pettite and Jason giambi manned up and just admitted what they had done. Have you heard about anyone prosecuting people for using steroids? No. Distribution, yes. Perjury yes. But simple use? Never.
