Looks like Magglio Ordonez is retiring

Mar 26, 2012, 4:00 PM EDT

I don’t think this counts as an official announcement yet, but here’s Magglio Ordonez on Twitter this afternoon:

Literally, that’s “close to retirement,” but do you really tweet that if you’re not gonna do it?

Earlier this spring we learned that Ordonez wouldn’t accept a minor league deal and would only play for a guaranteed roster spot and paycheck.  That wasn’t forthcoming, so this looks like the end of the road.

Farewell Magglio! In his prime, he was guaranteed 30 homers, 100+ RBI, .300/.370/.530 player. And I’m sure Tigers fans will always remember this:

Can you really retire if no one calls? I thought you had to have a job to retire.

Hopefully he does not get wasted and beat up his girlfriend!
