Photo of the Day: Yeah, Spring Training needs to end now

Mar 26, 2012, 12:30 PM EDT

This got circulated over the weekend — and creatively expounded upon — but this screen capture from 30FPS pretty much says all that needs to be said about late March spring training games:

I feel bad for him, but we’ll all be better off if he goes back to the minors, the major leaguers all head north and everyone begin to play some baseball that counts.

(hat tip to Rob)

As I saw someone say this weekend, I Don’t Know is literally on third.

  2. bsbiz - Mar 26, 2012 at 12:35 PM

I’m sure Mr. and Mrs. Guy are so proud their son was on television.

    • sabathiawouldbegoodattheeighthtoo - Mar 26, 2012 at 12:43 PM

The Guy family didn’t really shoot for the stars when naming him, did they? They could have at least gone with Utility Guy or Fourth Outfielder Guy…sheesh.

      • aclassyguyfromaclassytown - Mar 26, 2012 at 12:45 PM

No, they knew his talent level when he emerged from the womb. They were heard to say “Well with legs like that we can’t go naming him Major, now can we”. A tip of the house to the scouting department at whatever hospital MLG was born in.

      • aclassyguyfromaclassytown - Mar 26, 2012 at 12:45 PM

Sorry, make that “tip of the hat”

      • ptfu - Mar 26, 2012 at 12:50 PM

One of ’em got stuck with Buddy, and he didn’t turn out too badly.

    • hittfamily - Mar 26, 2012 at 1:17 PM

Great joke. Too bad all these clowns tried to expound on it.

  3. Old Gator - Mar 26, 2012 at 12:39 PM

End spring training now! Stop the injuries!

  4. b7p19 - Mar 26, 2012 at 12:46 PM

Yeah, but I wonder if he has three names like Wily Mo Pena, or if he took both his mom and dads last name and it should actually read Minor League-Guy. He is on third though, half credit for that.

  5. cup0pizza - Mar 26, 2012 at 12:47 PM

“why I rip guys like t.j. simers rather than ignore them” was a title of a recent sanctimonious Calcaterra article. This one got ignored. Wonder why? Didn’t fit your jealousy-driven agenda, I guess.,0,3090309.column

    • jwbiii - Mar 26, 2012 at 12:54 PM

Simers and Bill Plaschke write fine human interest stories. It’s their sports columns that are lousy.

    • churchoftheperpetuallyoutraged - Mar 26, 2012 at 1:21 PM

Might be a good article, but A, he still is doing the two sentences per paragraph crap, and B, one good article doesn’t excuse a bunch of terrible hit jobs.

    • mrfloydpink - Mar 26, 2012 at 1:52 PM

Dude, what is your deal? Why don’t you just shut the fuck up?

I mean, do you appreciate how pathetic it is that you clearly get your rocks off aggravating other people, and tilting at the windmill that is Hardball Talk? I mean, it’s ultimately a pretty low target you’re aiming at. Even if you are successful in whatever it is you’re trying to do, this is only one small corner of the Internet. It’s not like you’re saving the whales or curing cancer or exposing Newt Gingrich or Rick Santorum as hypocritical frauds or whatever.

And before you conclude from this that you make me angry–and that you have therefore accomplished your goals–be clear you haven’t. Seeing your posts largely just makes me wonder at who exactly the loser on the other end is. That no girl/guy would have you, and that you are therefore very lonely, is a given. Lack of employment is probable. Imagining you in your mom’s basement, pecking away at an IBM/XT is a bit too easy, but if the shoe fits…

      • Old Gator - Mar 26, 2012 at 3:16 PM

You’re dealing with cup0feces’ deep rooted need to be regarded as an imbecile. I think your reaching out to him like that was well intentioned enough, but really, this clown is sorely in need of professional help – and judging by the time he seems to have free to make a cloaca of himself here on CTB, unfortunately, chances are he doesn’t work enough hours per week to afford it.

Induced some tool to spew profanity? Check.
Induced some tool to pound on keyboard while typing long, futile character assassination attempt? Check,
Induced some tool to bust out cliched insults incl. “in your mom’s basement”? Check.

Yes…you became needlessly angry & belligerent.

Minor League Guy hit 386/444/584 in A-Ball last season as a 19 year old.

    • paperlions - Mar 26, 2012 at 12:55 PM

Yep, if you had ‘t heard of MLG before now…you’ll be hearing a lot about him in the next couple of years.

      • cur68 - Mar 26, 2012 at 3:17 PM

This will be known as where it began: The Rise Of Minor League Guy. I see Michael Bay directing the made for TV mini-series. He’ll work in Transformers and some token chick that he’ll marginalize, but the fight scenes will be spectacular.

You go, MLGoT. You go big. When you become Major League Guy on Third, you’ll have the last laugh.

“… Guy hit 386/444/584 in A-Ball last season as a 19 year old.”

He keeps that up the graphics producer won’t need to look his name up.

His mother must be so proud.

  8. justinreds - Mar 26, 2012 at 1:19 PM

I dont see what the problem is. When I played Tengens RBI Baseball for the NES in 1990 guys didnt have names. It was Catcher #7 and Relief Pitcher #91 they were all the same and it was fun. First Baseman #25 for the green and yellow team was pretty good though.

    • hittfamily - Mar 26, 2012 at 1:24 PM

      DwEvans was a beast

  9. hwentworth - Mar 26, 2012 at 1:37 PM

Why would we all be better off if he went to the minors? Minor league guy is there to try to make the majors. That’s one big part of spring training. If this kid ever does make it, you should have an article ready to go.

  10. dexterismyhero - Mar 26, 2012 at 2:07 PM

Is he realted to Peter, Lois, Meg, Brian, and Stewie?

  11. larrytsg - Mar 26, 2012 at 3:02 PM

Um, not sure why nobody else commented, but what’s up with MLG’s right arm? Is it freakishly thick and missing below the elbow, or what???? I guess it would make him a lefty!

  12. dallasstars9 - Mar 26, 2012 at 4:56 PM

    Is he missing an arm?

    • delsj - Mar 27, 2012 at 8:03 AM

I thought the same thing. I noticed that before I saw the caption. One-armed guy on third would be much more interesting than minor league guy on third.

Seriously, where is the rest of his arm? Is he trying to scratch his back?

The Guy family was also drafted by Cam Cameron.
