If you have one cat and he is aloof, get another one. Then they both have to compete for your attention. Plus it keeps them from being bored and keeps their weight down from because of the extra play.

So, cats are not selfish. And you evidenced this by giving examples of your own cat… which acts like a dog.

Most cats don’t act like that. They act like… well, they act like cats.

As for the “Tabby” reference, I only use it because Zimmerman is referred to as being “Mexican American”. So, you know, brown and white. “Mexican American” pisses me off.

I was under the impression that if you’re in America, you’re American, regardless of what color you are.

A few years ago I rescued three feral kittens while working in west Baltimore. They were ~4 weeks old and covered in fleas (the water ran red when I bathed them the first few times). Two were completely black and named Snoop and Flava Flav (both girls); the third was a tuxedo named Tennessee. After fixing them up and getting them vaccinated, I found homes for them.

The cat I have now (another rescue) is very much like a dog. She always greets us at the door when we come home, she’ll come when called, and she always curls up next to me at night. She often jumps in my lap and sleeps or sits between me and the keyboard when she wants attention. She’s very vocal and has a lot of personality.

I like dogs too, but I don’t have a yard nor the desire to get up extra early to take one for a walk. When I buy a house, I’ll get a dog.

Dogs are selfish in that their interested always are oriented toward what is good for dogs; never do they have your interests in mind…just the consequences of their actions. Learning tricks/commands is good because it results in treats or praise/safety (and a lack of violence from the less patient/understanding owners). Dogs are pack animals and do enjoy company, but don’t confuse that with them being selfless or somehow interested in anything but what is good/fun for dogs.

Dogs are certainly better than cats.
