Does it really matter? I mean this team is terrible. Have you looked at their depth chart lately. For a team that is re-building they have one of the oldest teams in the league. Dejesus in right 32. Bryd in center 34. Soriano is 36. Then at the corners two old prospects in Stewart 27 and Lahaire 29. If they are re-building then brett Jackson and Anthony rizzo should be here now. Not in June. This is one of the worst rosters I’ve ever seen. Their starting pitching is equally bad. For some reason they chose Dempster as the opening day starter. A 35 year old whose coming off the worst year of his career. Then Samarge who has been overated and underachieved and is now 28 years old but apperently still has upside. Volstadt has been bad but still young. Maholm is 30 and offers a team like this nothing. If its a top five pick the cubs want then they will get it. At least then they can add something more than Castro Barney Marmol, and Garza. Cause that’s all they have.

If you mean by “upside” a back of rotation starter/longman………ok
Also at $2.7 million (Wells salary), Rodrigo Lopez can fill his role much cheaper. I think a trade is in the cards, I will agree. Shark has much more LT potential than Wells.

Wells looks to me like he’s got a solid upside. He came back way too soon from that forearm injury last year, but our rotation is already locked up. Why have him rot in the bullpen? Stash him in AAA so he can build some numbers and come back up in case of an injury. You could use him as trade bait as well.

Here’s the stupidest thing you’ll read all day, but what the heck:

I went to a Cubs game last year (first time a Wrigley), Samarjzistan was the best reliever the Cubs threw that day. I couldn’t figure out why he wasn’t the closer.

Wells is far from an MLB staple. He’s been erratic and Samardzija deserves a chance. Especially with a team not expected to contend – they need to see what Jeff is made of. Wells doesn’t look like he’ll ever be more than a back-end option.

Yeah, Samasanslifvwirf is out of options. Plus there are reports that he has taken a real step forward after making adjustments. Why not keep the guy with even a little bit of upside?

That’s just weird. Was Samardzerfzasdlfkjia out of options? Why demote a perfectly good, healthy pitcher when you can trade him? I hear the Red Sox are short a pitcher.
