Ah, ha. Thanks. Its a historical term, then. The treatment & the statement “it usually lasts about a week” doesn’t match up with “Dead Arm Syndrome” which often has a torn labrum associated with it.

“dead arm” used to be the catch-all for when a pitcher was hurt (back when they were treated as disposible objects and no one bothered to give them real medical treatment). Now I would imagine it’s general inflamation around the shoulder/neck that pinches on the nerve (I have a herniated disk in my neck that occassionally gives me a “dead” feeling). That’s why they don’t seem to do anything to treat it other than rest, because there’s not much you can do except let the inflammation go down.
