Josh Beckett pwns Curt Schilling

Mar 29, 2012, 3:30 PM EDT

Curt Schilling said that the Red Sox players hate Bobby Valentine.  Josh Beckett then turned around with this:

No, Josh. He’s not. He’s just that sad old guy who keeps hanging around his old high school, telling everyone about how it used to be.  Go ahead, ask him: he’ll tell you how he scored four touchdowns in a single game that one time.

  1. cur68 - Mar 29, 2012 at 3:33 PM

Schilling went to Mighty Polk High? Huh. The stuff I learn ’round here…

In addressing before the assembly this morning I am reminded of the words of the foundry…er…founder…of More Science High School, Eukifah Heep, who pressed the first bricks with his own hands. Knowledge for the pupi…er…people, he said; give them a light, and they’ll follow it anywhere!

    • 4d3fect - Mar 29, 2012 at 6:22 PM

Gator with the FT remark of the day.

Trusswrappers will be persecuted to the full extent of the law!

  2. Kevin Gillman - Mar 29, 2012 at 3:33 PM

Or in this case, he’ll tell us about how he pitching with that “bloody” sock, that is where legends come from.

    • sabathiawouldbegoodattheeighthtoo - Mar 29, 2012 at 4:08 PM

Not one bunt Joe Torre? Really? Not even one?

      • daisycutter1 - Mar 29, 2012 at 4:29 PM

I am still angry about that nearly 8 years later. I can’t help it. It’s more puzzling than not pulling the team off the field in Cleveland as they were being eaten alive by midges.

      • Kevin Gillman - Mar 29, 2012 at 4:48 PM

yeah, looking back, test that ankle, no question about it.

      • cur68 - Mar 29, 2012 at 5:04 PM

        Y’know, now that you mention it . . . WTF /..\

-absolutely you bunt. What was Torre thinking?

      • paperlions - Mar 29, 2012 at 6:10 PM

That would have probably violated some unwritten rule….or something.

      • bigharold - Mar 30, 2012 at 12:28 AM

        “.. violated some unwritten rule..”

Don’t give Torre that much credit, tactics were never his strong point.

  3. bsbiz - Mar 29, 2012 at 3:51 PM

Not pictured in Beckett’s comments: That he had to pull his head out of a greasy paper bucket to respond.

    • danrizzle - Mar 29, 2012 at 4:25 PM

So… Beckett is Buckethead? Mystery solved.

  4. djdvd - Mar 29, 2012 at 3:59 PM

Hey Craig leave Al Bundy out of this – he probably has a more informed opinion than Schilling anyway.

    • lanflfan - Mar 29, 2012 at 4:10 PM

pwnes would be dork speak for “ownes”. When simple humiliation/trash talk just isn’t enough, you break out the pwnes. Of course, it probably started with a typo at 3am.

And yes, I am a dork for knowing these things. Love it, embrace it.

      • lanflfan - Mar 29, 2012 at 4:23 PM

I need to get out more.

      • stlouis1baseball - Mar 29, 2012 at 4:35 PM

        “Pwnes?” That is incredibly gay.

      • ajcardsfan - Mar 29, 2012 at 4:50 PM

Since when the hell did we start adding the e? I’m also with stlouis1, use an o, not a p. This is coming from guy that actually says the word lulz…I’ll go hang my head in shame now

      • WhenMattStairsIsKing - Mar 29, 2012 at 4:50 PM

You say that like it’s a bad thing, St Louis.

      • koufaxmitzvah - Mar 29, 2012 at 4:51 PM

Gay as in Overtly Happy? Like Dom Deluise in Blazing Saddles?

He was very, very, very happy.

      • Alex K - Mar 29, 2012 at 5:02 PM

Come on, STL, I thought we were past using gay as a pejorative.

      • spindervish - Mar 29, 2012 at 5:04 PM

While I wholeheartedly agree with the intended sentiment, I think we’re way past the point of using “gay” when what you mean is lame, puerile, nauseating, embarrassing …all of which are suitable descriptions for an intentional use of such a linguistic abomination by a supposedly educated adult.

      • callidus - Mar 30, 2012 at 8:14 AM

It actually started way back in the Warcraft days (the original strategy game, not World of Warcraft). There was a typo in the game code so that after a battle where the game was supposed to say “SoandSo just got owned” it instead said “SoandSo just got pwned.” It caught on among gamers and has been in gaming lingo for the past 15+ years.

    • churchoftheperpetuallyoutraged - Mar 29, 2012 at 4:11 PM

Seriously Craig, if you are going to join us in the nerdery, at least get the lingo down.

    • jimbo1949 - Mar 29, 2012 at 4:47 PM

typo of a typo? adjacent keys

  6. hittfamily - Mar 29, 2012 at 4:08 PM

    Schilling has become Uncle Rico.

    • lanflfan - Mar 29, 2012 at 4:12 PM

How much you want to bet he throw a baseball over that mountain?

      • ajcardsfan - Mar 29, 2012 at 4:53 PM

He could have gone pro…damnit, that one doesn’t work here

      • hittfamily - Mar 29, 2012 at 5:16 PM

I have decided that Derek Holland plays kip in the movie.

  7. sabathiawouldbegoodattheeighthtoo - Mar 29, 2012 at 4:09 PM

Was is sarcasm, or does Beckett really not know? With most guys I would assume sarcasm, but in this case I don’t think I would be comfortable putting down money either way.

  8. phukyouk - Mar 29, 2012 at 4:14 PM

    Trip McNealy!

  9. spindervish - Mar 29, 2012 at 4:21 PM

Right. Because of course it’s a necessity that one be on the 25-man roster in order to have access to any sort of inside information or clubhouse gossip.

Look, I truly can’t stand Schilling, but Beckett strikes me as just about as big of an asshole. And I have no idea if Schilling is making this stuff about Valentine up or not, but it’s laughable how many people seem to be assuming there’s nothing to this just because it came out of Schilling’s mouth. Track record, etc…I get that. But is the idea of some dudes disliking Bobby V. really that hard to imagine?

    • koufaxmitzvah - Mar 29, 2012 at 4:54 PM

It’s about as difficult to imagine as a some dude really disliking Curt Schilling.

      • stlouis1baseball - Mar 29, 2012 at 5:36 PM

Excellant point Sandy. Something about Schilling that sets a lot of people off.

    • stlouis1baseball - Mar 29, 2012 at 5:34 PM

I hear what you are saying Dervish. I truly do.
However, please know that I try to use the word “gay” anytime I think something is “queer,” “kooky,” “lame,” “dorky,” “geeky,” “nerdy,” “embarassing,” “nauseating,” “puerile,”
      “silly,” “stupid,” or otherwise “dweebish.”
In a nutshell…I try to make it my business to be the antithesis of the politically correct crowd.
Hence me trying to work the word “gay” in as much as possible.

      • spindervish - Mar 29, 2012 at 6:12 PM

I’m not even sure how to respond to that. That attitude is misguided at best, idiotic at worst. Do you also find it constructive to use the word n****r as much as possible?

Also, by the way…the phrase is “woe is me.”

    • 24missed - Mar 29, 2012 at 9:02 PM

Completely. Schilling has very strong opinions, to put it lightly, and can piss off just about anyone. But, because he is opinionated Schilling, it is easy to shrug off what he says. I tend to believe there is truth in what he has to offer. The insight he gave clearly painted a picture that was very different than the PR that we are used to hearing. I applaud him for being the one to tell it like it is. Beckett used to look up to Schill until he ripped him a new one during last season calling him out for a lack of professionalism. Good for him.

On the other hand, poster boy of all things positive and good, Josh Beckett is getting praised for what he is offering? Josh Beckett was the only guy given the limo to ride while the others rode the bus during ST. Josh Beckett is quickly becoming Bobby V.’s best bud.

All this is coming from another non-Schilling lover. I disagree with the guy many times, but he is intelligent and has a lot to offer.

I’m not saying Schilling is absolutely right, but I can’t believe Beckett is either. Two sides to every story.

    • stlouis1baseball - Mar 30, 2012 at 11:47 AM

Dervish: “I’m not even sure how to respond to that.”
You see…that’s the thing. I don’t need and/or care for a response. I may have a lot of faults…I may lack a lot of things. But self confidence isn’t one of them. As a result, I don’t need your confirmation, desire your approval or care if you agreement with anything.
What you don’t understand is I am very genuine. I know several people who “swing that way.”
My neighbors being two. I love the guys. Hang out with them all the time. They have a party once a month and I go to everyone of them. When they are on Vacation…we take care of their cats…get the mail…etc… When my Family and I are gone…they do likewise for us. One of the things they both readily admit to everyone is one of their favorite things about me…something they appreciate more than anything else is my “realness” as they put it. Your attitude is comical. Speaking of comedies…last night on Rules of Engagement Adam was trying to talk Jeff into doing a scavenger hunt with Audrey to show her how much he cares.
Jeff’s response…”that sounds super gay.” He referred to it being “super gay” several times.
You need to lighten up dude. I mean…wow. Have a drink or something. You seem incredibly up-tight.
As for your “Also, by the way…the phrase is “woe is me” comment…you must have me confused with another commenter cause’ I have no idea what you are referring to. Of course I know the phrase is “woe is me.” I just don’t have a clue what you are referring to as it doesn’t pertain to anything I posted. Nevertheless…thanks for the grammar lesson Mrs. Reynolds!

how much you wanna make a bet I can throw this football over them mountains. schilling = uncle rico

  11. brian32556 - Mar 29, 2012 at 5:08 PM

Curt Schilling = Mike Milbury. I guess once you play in Boston you automatically become the Subject Matter Expert. It still goes without saying, (but I’ll say it anyway) “BOSTON SUCKS!”

  12. skeleteeth - Mar 29, 2012 at 5:36 PM

    Schilling, what a moran…

  13. aceshigh11 - Mar 29, 2012 at 7:37 PM

That’s what I love about these Single-A recruits, man…I get older, they stay the saaaame age…heheheh…”

  14. mojosmagic - Mar 29, 2012 at 9:07 PM

Every time Curt opens his mouth I can’t help but thinking about the old Springsteen song “Glory Days”.

  15. fenianblastard - Mar 30, 2012 at 3:13 AM

Schilling is as much of a Blowhard as Former Gov Mitt Romney, Difference being Schilling knows he is a Tool and Romney does not !

  16. dexterismyhero - Mar 30, 2012 at 10:04 AM

Valentine is the total tool. Schilling doesn’t give a crap about what people think. I think he is refreshing in that way. Call the butthead a butthead. Don’t agree with him, who cares.
