Hawpe is another one of those players who would have been due a $100k bonus if he was on a minor league roster at the end of the day today. That made him a bit expensive for on organizational depth guy.

His hitting isn’t the issue. He hit well this spring. He’s still recovering from TJ surgery and can’t throw.

He might have value as a PH if he can recapture a bit of power, but I’d bet Japan is his next stop.

Sad to see him flame out so quickly, like so many others from that lightning-in-a-bottle era of Rockies’ baseball — Atkins, Matsui, Francis, Cook …

Holliday, Tulo, Helton all have proven themselves legit over long periods of time, but some of those other guys just seemed to have such short peak periods.

Wish the Rangers would have kept him around. I went to the same high school as him, though different years apart. He is a well-known name in Fort Worth, Tx.

Hawpe use to kill the Dodgers. I would have liked to have seen Ned take a chance on him in 2010, just he so wouldn’t have to face them. Ned will probably bring him in now as a gritty vet with no upside because that is what he does.
