From beat writer Nick Camino of Cleveland’s WTAM 1100 comes word that the Indians have handed the final spot in their season-opening starting rotation to right-hander Jeanmar Gomez.

Gomez won the job by registering a 1.37 ERA, 1.07 WHIP and 14/8 K/BB ratio this spring in 19 2/3 Cactus League innings. His competition, Kevin Slowey, surrendered 19 hits and nine earned runs across 12 Cactus League frames for a 6.75 ERA.

Gomez has an underwhelming 4.58 ERA through the first 22 appearances (21 starts) of his major league career. The Indians are obviously hoping that the 24-year-old is ready to take a big step forward.

Gomez can give the Indians a better chance to win than Slowey can, right now. Good for Gomez, he can help with the defense too, being a ground ball pitcher.

Can’t wait for Slowey to say he doesn’t want to pitch out of the bullpen, become clubhouse cancer, and alienate every person he crosses paths with.

Who cares? The tribe will only disappoint like they do every year and be the reason we all drink too much! God bless Cleveland! !!!!! -Tribe fan

I stand corrected. They sent him to AAA. Better yet. Let him poison the prospect pool. Yikes. How did he tick off the Rockies so much they traded him before he pitched an inning?
