The red sox will screw this up, for sure. Bard is the infinitely more valuable arm. But, IMO, he’s not a starter. He’ll likely wind up on the DL, hopefully the IR, before they figure it out.

Doubt it would ever happen, but why not use Acevez as a super reliever paired with Bard. For instance, have Bard only go 5-6 IP a start, and have Acevez long relief after. You only burn two pitchers every 5 days, Acevez puts in anywhere between 105-135 IP, and you keep Bards innings down as well.

Doubront has been on disabled list every year, back, elbow, hamstring. Aceves will be in there before too long. He’s a better pitcher anyway. The issue will be whoever catches him as he tends to throw whatever he wants regardless of what fingers the catcher puts down.

Yeah, despite Valentine’s skepticism on Bard, I fully expect it to be Bard and Doubront. Aceves has just been so flexible out of the ‘pen that it doesn’t make much sense to have him be a below-average starter when they have better options.
