Josh Beckett is in Cleveland getting a second opinion

Apr 3, 2012, 9:44 AM EDT

Boston Red Sox Josh Beckett walks to the dugout at the end of the seventh inning, during which the Baltimore Orioles scored two runs, in their MLB American League baseball at Fenway Park in Boston

“Well, you’re ugly too.”

Sorry. One of my favorite old jokes. Anyway.

A day after Josh Beckett went to San Antonio to get his wonky thumb looked at, he is on his way to the shores of Lake Erie to get a second opinion, this time at the Cleveland Clinic.

While one might assume this is worrisome — why get a second opinion if you’re told you’re fine? — the report is that Beckett is just getting the second opinion for his own “peace of mind,” and that everyone still expects him to make his scheduled start on Saturday.

I would just like to point out that this IS an even year….

…and considering Beckett’s always seems to miss playing time in those years (with the exception of 2006) it’s worth nothing.

        nothing or noting?

      • uyf1950 - Apr 3, 2012 at 11:00 AM

        sorry…”noting” My mistake.

      • phukyouk - Apr 3, 2012 at 11:08 AM

HAHAHAH! one letter changes the whole meaning of the sentence.

      • uyf1950 - Apr 3, 2012 at 11:15 AM

Yes it does. And spell check doesn’t work when the word is spelled correctly but not the one you want.

so you’re saying the Cleveland Clinic may come back with a diagnosis of severe Saberhagen Syndrome?

“…the report is that Beckett is just getting the second opinion for his own “piece of mind,” and that everyone still expects him to make his scheduled start on Saturday…”

And if you believe that I know someone that has ocean front property in Arizona that they would like to sell you.

Craig fixed tyops are always done in just the right way…. sometimes i think he does it on purpose just to mess with us.

Side note: Craig – how come no article about Kentucky winning last night which means that the Yanks are going to win it all.

So let me get this straight-The Red Sox have not made it to the regular season, and their intended closer Bailey, and now Beckett are both suffering from thumb injuries? Wow, what do they have these guys doing with their thumbs?

    • hackerjay - Apr 3, 2012 at 12:22 PM

      Thumb wars.

Love that joke. You’re going to be a corny grandpa like me someday.

It’s the WHOLE TEAM and organization !! I bet even Lucchino, Theo (watch out Cubs) and Tito have thumb injuries. The team spent the entire month of September 2011 closing out the season with their thumbs up there butts. It’s obviously contagious, the new closer Bailey wasn’t even on the team last year.

It is obvious that the red sox have spent a significant time during spring training with their thumbs up their asses. Bailey and Beckett.
