Perhaps the reason the “cheap” seats are selling slowly has something to do with the fact that the price of the least expensive seat is $40 for the opener. For the second game of the season, the same seat is $18. Perhaps the 122% premium for a mid-day game may have a connection to the excess supply.

The mets have a team this yr I didn’t even notice who would pay 180 to see this team. Unless u live in area what’s the point of traveling to qns to see them n overpay for these jokers The stadium is better then Yankee stadium but that’s all they have going for them

Nice. I am still holding out hope that Mets fans are as awesome as Dodgers fans turned out to be. It would be incredible to see a second owner pushed out by fans simply refusing to pay to see the team.

Don’t fret, the Mets have several buyers interested in purchasing large blocks of tickets, but won’t announce the deals until all are completed. Rumors are that SNY will by 1/2 the tickets, with Katz and Wilpon buying most of the remaining tickets and Vinny from Queens buying two tickets.

Sigh. Those are awful lowest-ticket-prices. MLB games have become way too much of a luxury. I usually only go if someone hooks me up, or if it’s the end of the season, my Cubs are in the tank and I can stag $5 tickets.

Oh, if only I could take the day off, but it never works out for opening day. (Too close to Passover for me to spare any days off.)

I did sort of go to one home opening day, in 1997, when the first home game was rained out on a Saturday and rescheduled into a doubleheader on Sunday. But as the next game after that was the big 50th anniversary commemoration of Jackie Robinson’s first MLB start on April 15, there were no festivities on Sunday.

Its nice to know that Dave Howard believes that 48 dollar tickets are cheap…sure it is one third the price but it is still a hell of a lot of money to watch a bad baseball team open their stadium
