Apr 5, 2012, 9:40 AM EDT

This is cool, classy and sweet:  Via the Mets Twitter feed, we learn that Terry Collins and the Mets coaches will honor the late Gary Carter with these jerseys during warmups and BP at Citi Field today:

Glad to see the Mets doing something cool, classy and sweet. But wearing them only pre-game? C’mon guys, where them for the whole game!!!

That would be like one giant Bugs Bunny cartoon.
a deep fly ball to carter, HE relays the thrown home, carter picks it up and throws to carter at the plate. HES OUT! WOW! What a play by carter. man can that “Kid” play

MLB probably has some kind of tightly clenched anal rule against anything like that.

That’s sort of how I feel about Jackie Robinson Day, though. I understand why it’s done, but seeing an entire team of 42s – especially if you are the Yankees and don’t have nametags – is a tad confusing.

Though in the case of the Yankees, everyone is channeling both Jackie and Mo. That makes you like gods for the night (even if one of the gods played for Brooklyn, and even if the Yanks were slow to integrate).

It’s just the coaches guys, not the players…..

        Players and coaches-

And yes, I’m sure MLB would not allow them to wear it during the game. We all remember the Mets hat debate from last year I’m sure.

I’m surprised Terry Collins would honor anyone that was late.

Sorry, couldn’t be helped. Very cool thing for the Mets coaches to do.

Still heartbreaking when a guy like Carter goes to his grave 25 years too early. RIP kid.
Good job Mets. Classy and touching.
