What’s on tap for Opening Day v3.0

Apr 5, 2012, 8:50 AM EDT

Bunting flag

As far as the calendar goes we are now halfway through Opening Day. Only two more days of it left!  And there are day baseball games today. More than one! And in this country! The rundown:

  • Boston at Detroit 1:00 PM:  Lester vs Verlander
  • Atlanta at NY Mets 1:10 PM: Hanson vs Santana
  • Philadelphia at Pittsburgh 1:35 PM:  Halladay vs Bedard
  • Washington at Chicago Cubs 2:20 PM:  Strasburg vs Dempster
  • Toronto at Cleveland 3:05 PM:  Romero vs Masterson
  • Miami at Cincinnati 4:00 PM:  Buehrle vs Cueto
  • LA Dodgers at San Diego 7:05 PM:  Kershaw vs Volquez

Lester vs. Verlander seems like fun, though I will obviously be watching the Braves-Mets game. Also interested in seeing Strasburg pitch. even after all this time he still seems exciting, no?

Anyway, strap in. Baseball in real volume is finally here.

I’m super excited to see what Strausbionic version 2012 has actually.

Here is something to help all the Met fans get through the season

Nothing matters until first pitch in Cincinnati. That is where opening day should always begin.

    • yankeesfanlen - Apr 5, 2012 at 9:52 AM

Very true. Even though I’ve never been near The Queen City, that’s where baseball starts.

      • phukyouk - Apr 5, 2012 at 11:06 AM

required? i watch that movie at least once a year.

      • Jonny 5 - Apr 5, 2012 at 2:09 PM

        Yes, required.

I hardly ever watch movies and when I do, well let’s just say fiddler on the roof isn’t in the top 20.

Why do some of us have to wait until tomorrow for our teams to start playing? I can understand the spectacle of one game on opening night, but then everyone else should play the next day. We have been waiting just as long through the offseason as the rest of you. Actually, as a Twins fan, we have been waiting for the season to start since about June-July of last year.

    • - Apr 5, 2012 at 9:51 AM

Royals fans have to wait until 9pm local…tomorrow to start the season. WTF.

There are thousand ways to open a baseball season. The way MLB has done it this year should never be used again.

Can we just go back to the first Monday in April…and have a 15 game schedule that day?

Romero against Masterson is the beginning of a new era for the 2012 World Series champions.

    • missthemexpos - Apr 5, 2012 at 10:04 AM

      CLEVELAND ???

      • proudlycanadian - Apr 5, 2012 at 10:16 AM

Dude, stop using insults on this board!

    • cur68 - Apr 5, 2012 at 12:06 PM

      C’mon, Beaver Men!

      • Jonny 5 - Apr 5, 2012 at 2:12 PM

Dude, I just just checked and the Lumber squad is in the hole! What gives? 😉

  6. yankeesfanlen - Apr 5, 2012 at 10:16 AM

Since apparently none of us will be in attendance, let’s reflect that the high temperatures today in New York, Pittsburgh, Cleveland, Cincinnati, Detroit and Chicago will not exceed 60 degrees, so we won’t be freezing our asses off for three hours. If it was a Yankees home opener vs. Boston, four hours, or maybe Bobby V. came up with a solution for that too.

  7. makeham98 - Apr 5, 2012 at 10:20 AM

Cinncinnati lays claim to having the first professional team. So they had the “traditional” opener. And they put on a nice day as a city with a parade through downtown before the game.

    • churchoftheperpetuallyoutraged - Apr 5, 2012 at 11:50 AM

Always wondered why they got the first game, never thought it’d be that simple.

  8. foreverchipper10 - Apr 5, 2012 at 5:18 PM

Of course the Braves would find a way to lose to the Mets. Le sigh.

  9. yankeesfanlen - Apr 5, 2012 at 10:29 AM

Nice to see “The Further Adventures of Craig Calcaterra” has been renewed for another season.
