Beckett has always been a thoroughly unlikeable prick, but as long as he was pitching brilliantly, as he did in 2007 and on and off since, his misanthropy was at least somewhat tolerable.

But after last September, his truculent unpleasantness has no upside anymore.

Beckett is paranoid about who the snitch is tatting him out for last year’s shit show he put on and not focusing on pitching. He’s convinced it is Youkilis. Can’t wait to see how that plays out. Youk would absolutely kick his ass. Beckett is all talk. Silver spoon baby.

I thought it was interesting he stayed in the dugout so long after being pulled, rather than heading back to the showers. It did enter my mind perhaps he was trying to avoid giving the media any grounds for more accusations so early in a new season.

Oh and another thing about Beckett, in the past couple years hes thrown his cutter WAY TOO GODDAMN MUCH. Its been happening in baseball a lot recently, perfectly good pitchers deciding they need to pick up a cutter and then falling in love with it. It’s ticking me off

One of the things that could have accounted for this was how whacked out his scheduled has been: flying to get the thumb looked at, having a game thursday and waiting 2 days after that to pitch. On top of that, 2 of those pitches that were hit for homers were actually very good pitches down and away from some very good hitters. He didn’t throw as many curves, but I don’t think his thumb is too bad, since he was able to snap off a couple good ones. As a sox fan, not a ton worried

Bucket, I mean Beckett taking up right where he left off.

As far as fielder is concerned, no one disputes his abilities right now. Let’s revisit this in just a few years. I’ll be amazed if he’s still productive in 5 years. Shocked if he’s still in a uniform when his contract expires.

He has a lot of years on that arm and a lot of players have seen his stuff, so he’s not going to fool too many of them. I watched a few innings of that game and he topped out at 92 on his fast ball,when I was watching, at that speed you better have pin point control of where you want to put it. If his thumb is an issue it showed today. Time will tell.

Thumb schmumb, you think it might have something to do with having to face cabrera and fielder back to back? This is so obviously the tigers year as much for their pitching as their offense. Everyone on that that team also has playoff expert now, but they havent won. So add hungry/chip on their shoulder to the list of adjectives.

Cabrera and fielder are going to hurt a lot or pitchers this season. For all the fat jokes that were floating around here when the tigers picked up prince and moved cabrera to 3rd, look who is laughing now. Power and average at both corners, everybody wants it.
