Callaspo has played 278 Major League games at 3B — not to mention games at 2B and SS — and has averaged one error per 11 games. In other words, he’s had more experience and more success than Trumbo, and clearly has more range. But if you prefer outlandish suggestions in the face of evidence, have at it.

His Spring Training was a lot like Callaspo’s. Maybe we shouldn’t even bother putting someone there. After all, they both made a number of errors in SP.

If I were an angels fan, I would want Morales or even Trumbo or Kendrick hitting behind Albert. Yes they will pitch around him, but right now he has two washed up vets who have very little to offer to a team outside of outstanding corner outfield defense. Torii hunter and Vernon wells should not be hitting 4th and 5th for a team with aspirations of a deep playoff fun. I know its one game and Morales will likely move up eventually, but right now it just seems like a glaringly obvious move.

As for Trumbo, yes its only one game, but how much better do you really think he will get? Maybe a tick better over the course of a season, but that isn’t saying much considering how he looks right now.

Small sample indeed, but there were 2 glaring mistakes (mentioned above) in addition to a limited range clinic Trumbo put on all game.

I find it hypocritical of Scioscia to start defensive catchers over legit bats, but this willingness to throw defense out the window in the hot corner. My $ is on this not ending well.

This has come up before about protecting Albert and it will probably come up again. That’s why Ron Washington was so happy to walk him even with Holliday or Berkman coming up behind him.

Except every indicator has said that Trumbo would be a disaster at third base. Now, he might get better, but he *never* played there in the minors.

There isn’t any player on the Angel’s roster that would convince a pitcher to throw Albert a better pitch. There is no such thing as “protection” for the best hitter in the lineup.

I’m sure there are a few teams out there who could use Wells and Abreu if the Angels ate all of the money. Sucks to do it, but those guys are blocking Trumbo and Trout, and the Angels are certainly in ‘win now’ mode, so doing what is best for winning seems like the correct plan. Give the vets a month to prove their worth and maybe build some trade value, then ship them out.

I know Wells is owed a ton of money, but why not just sit him and.put Trumbo in left? I gotta believe he would be slightly better in left and even though his range would likely suck, that would be offset a bit by Bourgas.

I honestly thought the bigger crime was putting Hunter and Wells as Albert’s protection in the line up. Why in the hell would a team give Albert anything to hit? Especially with two washed up veterans who can’t hit anything that isn’t a mistake pitch anymore?
