Okay, Feelies fans. Put down your half-eaten horrible horsemeat and Velveeta™ sandwiches - you don't have the appetite to finish them anyway this evening - and repeat after me:

OHHHHHHMMMMMMMMmmmmmmmmmmmm.....

It's early. The Feelies always start slowly. History repeats itself. The universe is circular. Relax.

As for the Feesh, be advised that, if you weren't paying attention, Austin Kearns had a terrific spring - subsisting on the blood of street waifs, for all we know - and his home run was not a surprise. If he flames out during the course of the season, so be it, but he earned his way back and looks like he'll be a bench stalwart this year.

Omar Infante, Emilio Bonifacio and Jose Reyes are off to pretty solid starts. But as I have been worrying since midway through spring training, as it became apparent that the Feesh notochord trust was going to squat on its laurels, the only significant get-on-base guy they brought in this weenter was Reyes, and he's a get-on-base guy. After an atrocious RISP record last season, they didn't go out and get any bona fide ribby augmentation. With the Iron Giant down with the same bum knee that's been plaguing him all spring and the Hanster merely muddling along, and John Buck occupying the friction layer at the bottom of Rio Mendoza (where I expect him to spend a lot of time this season), this is likely to be a problem - especially if the Iron Giant needs any serious time of for repair of that wonky joint.

Anibal Sanchez, who the Feesh seemed to want to make feel all but unwelcome this spring for reasons best known only to themselves, pitched a fine game and you have to give him credit. Moreover, if Slobbering Ozzie eventually has to fall on a sword over his imbecilic comments to Time, who's going to take his place who seriously believes he can keep Krazy Karlos Lamebraino focused and effective? In such a prunesday scenario, they're going to need little Anibal to step up and they're going to have to treat him like the valuable commodity that he really is.
