Oswalt’s holding out for the Cards or Rangers. That crafty Leyland is just lowering expectations for the fans, and keeping the opposing teams guessing. He’ll probably mention five candidates and announce who takes Lester’s spot the night before, forcing the other team to spread its advance scouts too thin to develop a game plan. Crazy like a fox, he is.

That was at the beginning of the offseason when Ozwalt foolishly thought he would get multi-year offers. I’m pretty sure he’d jump at a 10 MM – 1 year deal now (more like 5 MM half-year at the break).

Naw. That’s not how he does it. What he does, the day he needs that pitcher, is roll out of bed in the small hours, grab a cup of joe form the pot he keeps going non-stop (some of that coffee has started its own civilization near the pot-rim, its so old), stick his feet into his carpet slippers, shuffle outside with his coffee, light up a ciggy, and stroll round the infield as he thinks it over. The fact that he’s still in his underpants, lives at the ball park, and could give a crap that he’s out doors in his skivvies do not bother him. The horrified gasps and winces of the grounds crew do not bother him. The fact that women and children are hiding lest they need another dose of eye bleach, does not bother him. Jim’s thinking about that starting pitcher. By the time he’s made it round the bases (Circling the Bases, as it were) he’ll have a clue, but it requires a certain level of nicotine and caffeine to get him there. Good luck with getting a clue Mr. Leyland & may Dog Have Mercy on the Grounds Crew @ Tigers Stadium.

As a certain segment of my Yankee fan friends tells me frequently, Joe Girardi won a World Series, so that means all of his decisions are correct now. The problem with Boston was that they didn’t intentionally walk Boesch enough in order to get to the soft underbelly of Cabrera and Fielder.

DET has a few candidates that can spot start (Below, Coke, Turner, Smyly, Wilk, Oliver, etc.) When your offense can score a dozen runs a game, it doesn’t really matter who starts, does it?
