Sergio Santos to be excused from Blue Jays for birth of child

Apr 10, 2012, 4:46 PM EDT

Toronto Blue Jays' pitcher Santos reacts after giving up a run to the Boston Red Sox during the ninth inning of their MLB American League baseball game in Toronto Reuters

After tomorrow’s game Blue Jays closer Sergio Santos will be away from the team through at least Saturday to be with his wife for the birth of their child.

It’s not bad timing for a break after Santos blew back-to-back saves to begin the season and the Blue Jays can turn to Francisco Cordero as the fill-in closer.

Santos will have the job waiting for him when he returns, but if Cordero pitches well in the meantime and Santos struggles in his first few appearances back it’ll be tough to avoid a closer controversy in Toronto.

Once he becomes an official Daddy he can stop lookin’ like Aceves is HIS daddy, I hope. Congrats on the bambino, Sergio. Good luck with the birth.

I saw these 2 ladies during the coverage of last night’s game. I immediately thought of Craig’s post about sports groupie t-shirts for daughters. This, you see, is what he meant. Those outfits SCREAM “walk round the outside”, knowhatImean?

That being said, neither of these ladies ARE my daughter so all I have to say is: even tarts need love. Just a kind of small cake anyways. I do love me some cake….so yeah, I’m the guy lining up for the blind taste tes. . . ahem I mean, I’m the cute one on the right & PC’s the no-less attractive, but slightly more padded lady, on the left. Are we cute, or what?

Congrats on el nino or la nina, Sergio. Just remember, if you think you’ll get to sleep in the offseason, BAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!!!! But seriously, congratulations to the Santos family.

Good thing he doesn’t play in Texas, or the press would be blasting him for his inconsiderate and unprofessional family planning. (which Ranger did they roast last year for missing a start?)

There would be a few commenters on here taking him to task over it, also. Because, ya know, these are guys and need to act like guys, which includes smoking cigarettes in the waiting room—or playing baseball in some other city—and leaving the child rearing to the women and all.

Colby Lewis. My notes on him for last season include
      4/15/2011 Paternity leave
      4/18/2011 It’s a girl!
