That is nice in theory. You just need Hamilton to agree. If the Rangers do not pony-up the $$$, someone else will.

I'm a big fan of Hamilton, but the first thing that comes to mind is can he stay healthy. Seeing this as his contract year he going to put forth 150% everyday. You might see him play though minor injuries that he hasn't played in the past with. If I were Jon Daniels I would give nothing more than a two-year deal slightly better than the one he has now. Anything over two years is just pushing it for me.

Assuming both hit the market this fall, it should be interesting to see how Hamilton and Ethier make out. Both have had injuries, each is no on the wrong side of 30 and while Hamilton has had significant off-field issues Either has proven to be moody as hell. As such, 3-4 years for either would make a lot of sense but I suspect each may find at least one team each willing to do more thanks to the lack of free agent options. Perhaps not Werth studpid but a contract that is nonetheless too long for both of these guys.

Sign him to a long term deal but have a clause in the contract loosely based on the Prima Nocta Clause in Braveheart. Tell Josh that he has to play nice with his sobriety manager throughout the year but come January 2nd, he and his real manager Ron can have all the cocaine and hookers they want for a fortnight. TLR can be the bartender. It will be easy to get him, he will still be in a blackout and wont know the difference.
