I mean, really, how can you honestly compare Babe Ruth’s record to a modern player?

The technology used to manufacture baseballs and bats has changed. Uniforms have changed. Cleats have changed. Stadiums have changed. Players now pay close attention to their nutrition and work out cardiovascularly and with weights on a regular basis.

And even though it’s true that records are made to be broken, part of me wishes that Hank Aaron was still the career home run king.

Gayrod sucks! He is the slimiest POS out there. Griffey was better all around, and did it right. A lot of the games Griffey missed were due to diving into walls after fly balls.

Actually, I just don’t consider it relevant. A-Rod cheated, at a time when baseball didn’t give a rat’s ass about that type of cheating. I’ll consider putting an asterik on A-Rod’s records when you go through and stick an asterik on every player who scuffed balls, put Vaseline on balls, took greenies, corked bats, or stole signs from center field. If you got caught cheating, you got suspended. And that was it. Why should one particular type of cheating be any different?

It’s possible. It’s also possible that some people don’t hold the(se) record(s) like they are the sports version of the ten commandments. Records are made to be broken. Also, it’s hilarious watching some people (not all) wade through the drug issue bemoaning steroids and the impact on the game but at the same time ignoring all the other factors that have helped/hurt players throughout the game (steroids, amphetamines, color barrier, war, etc…)

He might be tied, but Griffey Jr. never took steroids. If Jr would have been healthy for a longer stretch in his career, he would have more than Bonds.

I would love to see how well arod’s knee would be holding up, if he had to play 7+ years on the old Kingdome astro “concrete” like griffey did. If not for that damn surface griffey has a realistic chance at the record. Although we would have been stuck with Bonds for longer.

Griffey JR was a class act. It’s really heartwarming to live in the city of Seattle knowing we have housed some of the greatest athletes to play the game. Have the Mariners won a pennant? No, but we had Griffey, Edger Martinez, Jay Buhner and Randy Johnson. All classy gentlemen without any accusations of roids or drug problems or crime. Have the Seahawks won a super bowl? No, but Matt Hasselbeck was here 10 years without any criminal history. Just a great person. For a great city.

Go Seattle. One of the few classy sports cities around.

Why are people here so touchy on the subject of steroids (all the thumbs down)?

I mean, I think it’s pretty safe to say that the all-time HR list HAS been devalued by people like Sosa, Bonds and A-Rod. It’s not as big and illustrious a deal as it used to be, unfortunately.

I just think it sucks for the game that there’s so much cynicism now.
