David Wright can’t play, might go on disabled list

David Wright was cleared to play by a hand specialist Thursday, but he was held out of Friday’s lineup and might yet land on the DL with a fractured pinkie finger.

Wright made it clear he doesn’t want anyone questioning his pain tolerance while he sits out:

It’s not about me sucking it up and playing through pain. I functionally can’t grip a bat or grip a baseball. This isn’t banged-up. I take great pride in going out there and playing through pain. But this would be stupid. I would be hurting the team. It doesn’t make sense.

No, it doesn’t. It’s not want fans want to hear, but in a lot of cases, players who try to play through injuries do hurt their teams in the process.

The Mets plan to wait to see how Wright is Saturday before making a decision on whether to put him on the DL. Jordany Valdespin, Vinny Rottino and Bobby Scales would be candidates to replace him on the Mets roster. If Valdespin is the choice it’d be because he’s on the 40-man roster and the team doesn’t want to expose another player to waivers.

Good thing that Collins already said that he could play…

He’s entitled to his opinion, it’s just not worth very much.

If Valdespin gets the call it’s because he’s significantly better at baseball than those other guys, 40 man roster be damned.

And if Wright is DL’d, please move Murphy to third where he’s actually good defensively.

Mets organization is fubar. He can play, he can’t play, he might play, he is cleared to play, he might go on DL……wtf???? And the WIlpon led circus continues…..

Uh oh. This won’t sit well with legendary tough guy Collins. I guess it will be an extra bag of sunflower seeds for the George Patton of baseball managers….. I hear tell that Collins has already gotten 2 splinters in his ass from sitting on the bench and he was able to continue managing through the whole game!! BOTH TIMES!! David Wright is such a wimp by comparison.

The Mets front office can’t make a smart decision as how to best handle a player’s injury. The Wilpons SUCK.

they will move murph over to third and call up jordy valdespain to play second base. actually there a better team with wright out of the lineup. I never seen a player on the DL as much. as D.wright I hope. they trade this overrated bum at the trading. deadline. !!!!!!!!!!!!
