Miguel Cabrera complains about the batters box, so they redo the batter’s box

Apr 13, 2012, 2:30 PM EDT

Miguel Cabrera

This is something you don’t see every day.  In the first inning of the Tigers-White Sox game at U.S. Cellular Field, Miguel Cabrera complained to the umpires about the placement of the batter’s box, saying it was too close to the pitcher’s mound. Jim Leyland came out and said something too.

Were they told to pipe down?  Nope: the game was delayed while the grounds crew came out and re-did the batters box.

Strange. Never seen a batter’s box delay before. I wonder if someone with the White Sox was trying to mess with the Tigers or if this was merely a matter of incompetence.

He also complained that he they didn’t have enough heaters in the dugout for Jimmy, pasta for Prince at the. Udder and scotch in his locker!! And guess what they took care of that

Care to try that one again?

Come on guys. If you’re gonna use your phones or tablets to comment, proofread. Too many people on this site bitch about not being able to edit comments, but proofreading is not that difficult. I would hope you don’t send work emails without doing so…

      • morselsfromutleyssoulpatch - Apr 13, 2012 at 8:40 PM

Your exactly right, if he had in fact proofread he maybe up to 100 thumbs down instead of 66

      • morselsfromutleyssoulpatch - Apr 13, 2012 at 8:46 PM

Given the time that he posted it he doesn’t have a job. Probably lives with his mother in her basement eating left over meatloaf. Not to mention the increasingly porn he downloads. It’s a wonder he has anytime to post at all

Whoever’s umping the red sox rays game seriously hates David price. right down the middle is a ball.

    • 1943mrmojorisin1971 - Apr 13, 2012 at 2:52 PM

Wrong post and not even true.

    • detroitfanatic - Apr 13, 2012 at 3:01 PM

Watching it now. He is getting big time squeezed. Outside corner to lefties is a ball every time.

      • 1943mrmojorisin1971 - Apr 13, 2012 at 3:09 PM

If you believe the pitch zone thing they use on TV then it has been a ball every time. The ump just has a tight zone today. It happens.

      • bbil2012 - Apr 13, 2012 at 3:12 PM

What about the pitches called strikes to MacDonald and Ross?Right on the inside corner.Good calls Ump!

      • detroitfanatic - Apr 13, 2012 at 3:20 PM

Man. He has pitched great, but had awful luck!!!!!

Shoppach stuck his arm over the plate to get hit. Ellsbury oopsed a double on a pop up down the left field line. Gonzalez found a hole through the infield on a ball to left. Ortiz hit a swinging bunt to third for a hit. Not a single well hit ball.

It all added up to a terrible outing, although his stuff was great.

      • 1943mrmojorisin1971 - Apr 13, 2012 at 3:44 PM

I’ve seen Shoppach do that a couple times already this year, not sure how he gest away with it.

      • detroitfanatic - Apr 13, 2012 at 3:46 PM

Ellsbury just either broke his clavicle, or seperated his shoulder. A hit and run, and Pedroia hit one right up the middle. Brignac fielded the ball and turned 2, landing on Ellsbury. He came down on Ellsbury.

Incompetence is a word, incompetency is not.

    • CJ - Apr 13, 2012 at 3:24 PM

I dunno, incompetency seems to show right through your posts.

    • 1943mrmojorisin1971 - Apr 13, 2012 at 3:27 PM

The fine people at the Oxford English Dictionary might beg to differ.

      • brewcrewfan54 - Apr 13, 2012 at 4:19 PM

Guys who write dictionary’s don’t know more than anonymous intenet posters on a baseball blog.

      • 1943mrmojorisin1971 - Apr 13, 2012 at 4:23 PM

Pfft! English, who needs that? I’m never going to England.

    • paperlions - Apr 13, 2012 at 4:47 PM

Except for the fact that incompetency is the noun form used to refer to the particular subject in which someone is incompetent you are correct. If you are incompetent at something (for example, recognizing legitimate word), that skill at which you are incompetent is an incompetency.

      • natstowngreg - Apr 13, 2012 at 6:31 PM

To paraphrase an old boss of mine, I could have gone all day without seeing this. :)

  4. deweyks - Apr 13, 2012 at 2:50 PM

The batters box was 6-8 in. closer to the pitchers mound than it’s supposed to be. Methinks the grounds crew screwed up…

    • blabidibla - Apr 13, 2012 at 3:29 PM

Sounds to me like the flipped the frame backwards when they placed it originally. the guides line up with the square part of the plate, and if you have it backwards it will be off by about 5-6 inches.

  5. drewzducks - Apr 13, 2012 at 2:57 PM

Did he complain because it sunk 2 inches after he stepped in it ?

    • cltjump - Apr 13, 2012 at 8:28 PM

      No, no, Cabrera, not Fielder.

  6. WhenMattStairsIsKing - Apr 13, 2012 at 2:59 PM

What’s he going to complain about next, the blood alcohol legal limit?

    Oh snap, low blow!

  7. nflfollower - Apr 13, 2012 at 3:25 PM

Sox clearly had it moved forward, the difference was blatant. No way the grounds crew screws it up that bad on accident.

    • blabidibla - Apr 13, 2012 at 3:34 PM

Yes, because clearly only the Tigers would suffer from the bad placement. The sox all love standing closer to the pitcher.

      • nflfollower - Apr 13, 2012 at 3:47 PM

Well if you know a hitter as dominant as cabby hits from the back of the box EVERY time, you might tell your own guys to deal with it, its worth it to get a star off his game. You just aren’t thinking clearly if you entirely dismiss the possibility.

      • blabidibla - Apr 13, 2012 at 4:56 PM

I could be wrong, but don’t most major league hitters stand near the back of the box in order to give themselves more time to see the ball?

      • frank433 - Apr 13, 2012 at 6:05 PM

Or have the White Sox lead off hitter have it fixed in the bottom of the 1st?

  8. romoscollarbone - Apr 13, 2012 at 11:53 PM

About 5-6 yrs ago I remember watching a game and Pujols spotted something amiss with the box and they redid it.
