A closer on a crappy team doesn’t get that much work and ends up looking awesome. So the Astros know they r not going to win a lot so why not try to trade him when value is very high.
We r only 1 week into season and already 2 teams might have to over pay for him.

Already? They’ve probably been shopping him since Luhnow arrived. The team is going nowhere for the next couple years, so why do they need an expensive veteran closer? Trade him and stockpile prospects and picks.

Great point. Although I’m sure we’ll see Lyles in the rotation at some point this season, maybe another young guy as well.

Myers does not fit in with any ongoing plans. But I am worried about depleting the reservoir of arms too quickly. That’s a lot of young pitchers, and once they get over 150 innings, a lot will be getting tired. I hope they are careful in their dealings.

I don’t seeing the Giants being interested in Myers.

Their bullpen is still very good. I look for Romo to get first crack at closing.

Think back to last year. The catching situation was far more dire than the closer situation and Sabean choose to go with two career minor leaguers at catcher Whiteside and Stewart rather than give up anything to pickup a Pudge Rodriguez for example.

Of course Sabean did overpay to rent Carlos Beltran so you never know.

While the Astros have gotten off to a solid start, this really is good to hear. The youth movement is already in effect, and getting some more prospects will only help. Myers would be better off helping a contender, and the Astros can continue to build up their minor league system. Houston was able to get 2 starters for Mark Melancon, so a deal for Myers should brings something good back.
