A good manager would have approached Youkilis privately. He’s a guy with a track record for intensity and hard work. Who knows what his issue is. It could be some private or family matter. Public embarrassment, though, is just counter productive. Pedroia’s vocal defense of Youkilis shows too that Valentine’s lost some respect in the club house. Valentine had better change his approach or he’s going to have some problems.

Predictable and predicted: Valentine is a terrible manager. The losing streak to start the year masked the legitimate complaints that many of us have with his choices.
