It would have been fine if Reyes had won a World Series title with the Mets. This move by the Mets is pure desperation to get bodies in the seats. It’s pathetic. This dude left the Mets via free agency. What’s next? retire his number. I don’t care if the Mets feel good start is making news. This is just another desperate move by the Wilpons. I will not go until they sell.

This is at once a class act and a somewhat cynical way to get fans to come out to the game. I guess it’s not as bad as Florida Gators Day when Tebow was playing against the Dolphins. But it’s weird.

At the same time…let’s be honest. We loved Jose. And I for one am following his Marlins work very closely because he’s just that good. So paying him tribute is fine by me.

The Met’s offered him a contract, sure. But it wasn’t a particularly competitive offer…it was a “let’s make an offer so we can say we did when the fans get pissed that he left” offer.

….but yes, having a tribute is kind of stupid. Fans don’t need contrived crap. They will present their own tribute to him if they want to by standing and applauding…or not…as they see fit.

Nice gesture. I think the Jays did something similar when Halladay returned. As long as teams don’t go over the top it is a good move to honour those that contributed to past success even if they have moved on.

Seems kind of weird to honor a guy who voluntarily left your team after you offered him a contract…..And the WIlpon circus continues….You really can’t make this stuff up….Gee, when are the Cardinals having Pujols night?
