I hear you on Beltran Spud. But I am afraid that any more than about 15 innings in Center and his “production” will be gone! Hahaha! Joking of course. But I do feel we should only put Carlos in Center if it is absolutely necessary. Dude’s like 47 years old! He isn’t Jamie Moyer.

If Jay is indeed DL bound, it is at least time to add Matt Adams to the 40-man roster, so he can be called up quickly if needed. Yes, this might expose the likes of Kozma (who was a #1 drafter blunder), Anderson (who was 1 for 34 as of yesterday and is a defensive liability) or Freeman (who needs Tommy John surgery) to waiver claims. Adams isn’t going to dawdle in Memphis for 3 years anyway so make him available.

Barring any setback 10 days ought to suffice for Craig, who should have honed his batting eye to MLB ready condition through his earlier successful Spring Training, recent minor league work, and a week of top notch AAA competition.

A shift of Beltran to center, Carpenter or Craig to right-field, and Adams to first base, with Komatsu, Schumaker and Robinson viable defensive subs, St. Louis would still have a productive line-up.

They can put Robinson in and let him get his full rehab assignment in, don’t want him to do any damage that could take him out again.

With Berkman and potentially Jay on the shelf, Craig will probably be on his rehab assignment for far shorter than 20 days.
