Jon Jay leaves the game with a sprained shoulder

The Cardinals are kind of a juggernaut at the moment, and one of the reasons they’re so remarkable is that they’ve been doing what they’ve been doing despite a number of injuries.

But at some point that ceases to be neat and starts to be concerning. Maybe that point is today, as they saw yet another player go down: Jon Jay, who left this afternoon’s Cardinals-Reds game after slamming into the center field wall for no apparent reason.

The shoulder is sprained, they say, and he shouldn’t go on the DL or anything — he’s listed as day-to-day — but the Cardinals probably don’t need any more banged up players.

Joe Strauss is reporting Mozeliak is considering a roster move in regards to John Jay’s injury today although it may take 24-48 hours to determine.

Skip, Kamatsu and Robinson are all options in center with the possibility of Matt Adams getting called up to play 1st, Beltran getting some time in center and Matt Carpenter getting some time in right.

One hitch with Adams, not on the 40 man so someone would have to go if that scenario plays out…

Update to the above, apparently (according to Strauss) Adams is not an option.

Let’s hope this is only a sprained shoulder and not an “it’s just a contusion” Chris Young type shoulder injury.
