Not a bad pick up for them in my eyes. Allen is obviously a very flawed player, but considering the Rays have nothing to lose here, I don't see the harm. Worst case scenario is he ends up being a bust for yet another club and is cut loose on waivers. Best case is he turns out to be like Carlos Pena who showed flashes, but didnt break through until later in his career and in Tampa.

Still just 26, but 26 is kind of old for a dude in Allen's position. If you haven't broken through to the majors by 26, odds are you won't...or you won't last very long.

Not a good fit for Tampa. He will be insurance for Pena and Scott, but won't sniff the Majors unless one of them ends up on the DL. He might take Vogt's spot today, but Vogt was going down when Upton returned anyways. The Rays need a lefty of the bench, but not a firstbaseman. They need a platoon for Rodriguez. Joyce, Zobrist (s), Pena, and Scott are all lefites, and there is no room for Allen.
