Well maybe because he’s a heralded Japanese pitcher who has a lot of pressure to perform for the two time defending AL champs? What else are they supposed to report on, the Royals sucking yet again? Yu is a big story for MLB, as he should be, so I don’t see the problem at all.

A quick check reveals 16 Yu Darvish stories on this blog in the last 40 days, nearly one every other day. This includes an update on his first intrasquad start, stories about four spring training starts, and a story on each of the three regular season starts he has made thus far. You don’t think that it’s getting a *little* excessive?

At risk of being ungenerous, do we really have to have an update every time Yu Darvish brushes his teeth, wipes his ass, or clips a hangnail? Merciless hyping of athletes is precisely the reason I don’t frequent espn.com any more (What? Tiger Woods is losing yet another golf tournament? Thanks for the update!)

Watched that whole game and Darvish took some major strides. Got out of some major jams and made some key pitches when needed. Only thing that concerns me is those leadoff walks he had tonight. The Tigers couldn’t cash in but the Yankees won’t be so kind next time around.

Holding an out-of-control potent offense like the Tigers’ to one run is a big statement on Darvish’s part.

He’ll be better than good once he gets his bearings in MLB.

Yeah, an even strikeout-to-walk ratio pretty much nullifies the whole no runs thing from a long term perspective. I guess it’s still encouraging though.

I really want to believe Darvish is different from the other smoke and mirrors pitchers Japan has brought, but it may take roughly a season to work those kinks out, which is fine.

Hmmm might settle in quicker than I thought. Too early to tell but either way no doubt that’s pretty impressive against the tigers.
