I enjoyed and loved the heck out of that mass player entry. A pure treat.

Minuses: MLB Net fell behind (badly) on getting players’ names on screen, and soon gave it up, which was the right call, just too overwhelming. And, unfortunately, MLB Net cut away a few times to pay the bills, and that really was a very poor decision. This was a once in a lifetime event, and deserved full airtime. C’mon, we see more than enough Miller Beer commercials.

Pluses: Pedro rallying the crowd. Saving Yaz for last (of course). Names both familiar and forgotten. Wow. Just wow.

Hopes: do NOT make this an annual event. Maybe every ten years. Hope the Cubs do similar in either 2014 or 2016.

Pesky is far from dead. He’s been VERY spry and active up until recently.

In fact, I’d never seen him in a wheelchair before today…sad, but he is in his early 90s. He’s had a great run.

Thought Johnny Pesky was dead. Great to learn I was wrong.

Also great was Francona showing up. Whether he deserved to be fired after last season or not, management treated him most shabbilly. Excellent that the fans acknowledged all he contributed to that franchise.

Pedro and Millar were disgraces. “Who is Karim Garcia?” Buffoons. They were both drunk, and turned a historic celebration into an uncomfortable inside joke. A lot of work went into that, a lot of people traveled a long way to get there, and they turn the microphones over to 2 drunken idiots, pun not intended.

On a side note, anyone else notice that early 2000′s Braves middle infielder Keith Lockhart was the director of the Boston Pops?

Well, okay. There’s “lovable goofball” and there’s “stupid overgrown frat boy.” For my money, Millar is the latter, but YMMV. The Sox aren’t my team, so I won’t try to tell their fans who or what ought to be meaningful to them.

Too bs they didnt get someone = classy? Really the fun of it was that we won a world series with a bunch of goofballs guys. everybody loves Pedro and millar along with all the others. What matters was the fun not the”oh real classy ya, why didnt they celebrate the guys from 1918″

I’m not, on the whole, a John Williams fan, but the inclusion of the Boston Pops was a classy touch. Too bad they didn’t get someone equally classy to give the toast; Millar is a clown. (And the lack of PA intros meant that dorks like him got bigger ovations than some of the true stars of years past, just by virtue of being recognizable.)

Most striking “good God I’m old” moment: Seeing how grey Carl Yastrzemski is.

A really nice event. Too bad Schilling was too busy with his video games (and Clemens with his, uh, legal complications) to participate.
