The video of the last pitch sure looked like ball 4 to me, making Humber the happy recipient of an unearned perfect game. Oh, well, umpires are human, and Humber was undeniably dominant.
This makes one recall the perfect game thrown on June 3, 2010 by Detroit Tigers’ Armando Galarraga against the Cleveland Indians — perfect except for a blown call by the first base umpire.
So who’s really more deserving of being in the record book? IMO, it’s clearly Galarraga. But let’s be magnanimous and put both games in the record book, each with an asterisk.

Don’t give him too much credit. After all the Mariners have a double A lineup. Every pitcher lucky enough to start against the pathetic Mariner batting order gets to feel like Sandy Koufax at the peak of his career.

Dude at the time you got one of the best pitchers in baseball in J.Santana. Injuries happen but how do you not make that trade. Looking back it looks like a lose-lose trade though.

I can’t argue that he has been a journeyman, but he really was never given a shot to start until last season. 26 of his 29 career starts were last season. He finished 9-9, with a respectable 3.75 era, 1.18 whip, 163 inn, and only 41 bb. Not to shabby for a 4th starter. I’m not telling you he is an ace, but I think he is a solid pitcher middle of the rotation guy. Lets just say I wasn’t shocked he had a perfect game against the Mariners. Maybe if he faced a major league team I would be shocked. All joking aside, way to go P.Humber.

Obviously they should have known a journeyman fourth starter would throw a perfect game today. In fact they probably did, and simply decided not to broadcast it just to fuck with you. What a bunch of dicks.

Here in SE Virginia, we finally got the perfecto in the 9th, split screen at first, then finally, with one out they went full screen.
Speaking of errors, on msnbc’s perfecto pictorial, they have the wrong date for Koufax’s. They say Sept. 10; it was Sept. 9. Alas, for perfection today, you had to be in Seattle.
